At every Friesian breeding Stud Farm across the northern European summer, the 1st premium foals that turned 3 years old are being carefully trained for the prestigious Stallion Breeding Selection that begins in November each year. 300 of the best Stallion candidates undergo strict judging criteria for a full year to be considered worthy to pass the genetic attributes onto the next generation of the majestic Friesian horse.

Approximately 100 stallions are given an invitation to the 2nd viewing that is held every January at the annual Friesian stallion show in Friesland. Only 35-50 stallions survive the 3rd viewing. The successful ones are invited to participate in a gruelling 70 day Central Examination throughout the year where every week candidates are eliminated and only the best shine and thrive. 

In October, 3 to 5 stallions who have excelled during the long testing process are selected for coveted breeding rights to the Friesian mares. Over the next 3 years, each new stallion foal crop are carefully inspected to ensure the quality and golden characteristics of the Friesian horse are passed onto the next generations.

In November 2021, a young Stallion Candidate proved to the KFPS Judges that he was worthy. This young stallion produced the best test results in all three disciplines - Riding (89%), Driving (88.5%) and Show driving (90.5%). The first approved son of NANE 492 SPORT, this young stallion's pedigree includes the mighty preferant Stallion BEART 411 SPORT PREFERANT whose father is the King of Friesians - JASPER 366 SPORT ELITE PREFERANT.

In November 2021, Gerben STER won through the year-long assessment, beating out 300 other quality candidates to become the 526th Friesian stallion since 1879 to receive his Friesian Breeding license and entered the Friesian Stallion Book as 

GOSSE 526.
